Even though I almost always have my DSLR with me, I have really become fond of using the iPhone app Instagram, especially since I got an iPhone 4 last year (after a student stole my old phone). I think that it forces me to reconsider the kinds of things I shoot, and I like the small, square format and the technological restrictions. The photos that I shoot with it certainly aren’t professional, but I think that there’s a lot of value in practicing with a very low-tech format. I find myself thinking about the subject and composition far more than I do with my DSLR, and I think that it’s a good thing.
On that note, here are some Instagram shots I took last weekend at the Tank Farm living history event in Manassas. Enjoy!
For those of you among my readers who have both a regular camera and also use an app like Instagram, how do you feel that your photography is different between the two?
